And did those beans in early morn

Roast under Starbuck’s sign so green?

And was the lonely barista

At Starbuck’s busy counter seen?

And did the harried customer

Order caffeine or decaf brew?

And is a chocolate croissant

Valid as a breakfast go-to?

I have sweet tea for Jonson, Ben;

I have lattes for Vonnegut.

I have no time for shambling men;

I have my bachelor’s in lit!

This will not cease–this morning rush,

Nor shall my mind find sweet respite,

Till my life and youth, both gone,

Have sated Starbuck’s appetite.
