I’m so sorry for how late this response is, I’ve been having internet trouble recently that has made attempting to access Tumblr a nightmare. If you’re still working on your essay, an interesting book you might want to check out is Harold Bloom’s Shakespeare: The Invention of the Human.

It’s a 768 page book but it’s not a challenging read, just lengthy. Obviously you don’t need to read the whole thing but Bloom presents some intriguing ideas regarding the development of the English language and creating characters and personalities (as it pertains to Shakespeare). I wouldn’t say that I personally agree with everything he suggests in the book, but like I said, it’s a very interesting read that you may find helpful.
